Vintage Distressed Backyard Basics Tri-fold Birthday Card

I had one more leftover flower from my Backyard Basics project but wanted to do something completely different from the other three.  I am sending this to my good friend Susan whose birthday is in a couple of weeks.

 

I started with a 6" x 12" very vanilla card stock, scored at 4" and 8".  I stamped the Dictionary background stamp using baked brown sugar ink on the three panels.  On the third panel, I used a die cut scrap paper to mask the center of the panel.  The mask left a "blank" area to write a message.  I sponged baked brown sugar ink on all the edges.  I folded the card to sponged the inside "edges" as well.  I also stamped the bee and egg on the front of the card using island indigo ink.  I'm loving this already!

Next I sprayed a doily with island indigo ink mixed with water.  I used the heat gun to speed up the drying process.  The butterfly was stamped on a scrap vanilla card stock with versamark, heat embossed with white embossing powder and die cut with the matching framelits.   The label was die cut with the Apothecary Accents Framelits.  The sentiment, from Simply Sketched stamp set, was stamped with island indigo ink.

Then I sponged baked brown sugar ink all over the doily, the left over flower, the sentiment label and the butterfly.  I cut  5" and 3" pieces of natural 7/16" trim, frayed the edges and sponged baked brown sugar ink all over them.  When all the pieces were properly distressed, I assembled the focal point and added an antique brad and the candy dots.

On the middle and last panel I stamped the images using island indigo ink.  I added the other frayed natural trim on the last panel.

This was really fun to work on, lots of details but totally worth it.  Hope you like it as well.

Wildflower Meadow - Trifold

Hello, thanks for stopping by today.  I have another card made using the Wildflower Meadow background stamp.  This time, I wanted to play with the new In Colors for 2013-2014.  Once again, I started by stamping with white pigment ink.

My card base is crumb cake cardstock measuring 12" x 6", scored at 4" and 8".  I stamped the Wildflower Meadow on the three panels using white pigment ink .  (TIP: Pigment inks need some time to dry so use your heat gun if you want to color right away.)  I colored the flowers, leaves and stems using a blender pen and four of the new In Colors - strawberry slush, pistachio pudding, coastal cabana and crisp cantaloupe plus daffodil delight.

This card is not easy to photograph, it looks so much better in person.  After I finished coloring, I realized there's no room to write a note, minor detail, right?  On the middle panel, I smudged the hummingbird so I covered it with the sentiment. The sentiment is from the set called Label Love, from the upcoming Stampin'Up catalog and there's a matching punch called Artisan Label.  The border is one of the washi tape from the pack called Gingham Garden Designer Washi Tape and the button is from the Very Vintage Designer Buttons.  All the supplies used on this card are from the upcoming 2013-2014 Stampin'Up catalog and will be available for purchase starting May 30th.

Dress Up Framelits

Today I’m sharing the rest of the dress form cards I made this past weekend. Just like the card from the last post, I worked with the dress form first and then came up with the layout after the dress form was completed.

The colors on the first card are crumb cake, vanilla, pretty in pink and raspberry ripple. I die cut two dress forms – one using First Edition DSP and the other one using vanilla cardstock. I pasted the die cuts together to make the dress form sturdier. I sponged pretty in pink ink all over the die cut but I wasn't getting the intensity I wanted so I dragged the ink pad directly on the paper. I added the pearl necklace and placed the rose on top.

The card base is crumb cake. The panel is vanilla embossed with Framed Tulip EF and sponged all over with soft suede ink. I added the scalloped lace ribbon from the Artisan Embellishments Kit and tape a strip of Print Poetry DSP on top of the lace. The sentiment was stamped with raspberry ripple ink and punched with the jewelry tag punch and added the linen thread to the tag.  One thing I would change on this card is the pearls, I should have colored them so they're not too white.

The colors on the second card are old olive, raspberry ripple and vanilla. I also started with the die cut dress form on this card and assembled it like the others. Using the direct to paper technique, I dragged the old olive ink pad across the dress form. I used a sponge to even out the color. I love how you can change the look of the First Edition DSP by using the direct to paper technique. I added the double bow ribbon made with satin stitched ribbon in raspberry ripple.

The base for this card is old olive card stock dry embossed with the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder. I die cut Print Poetry DSP and vanilla card stock using the Labels Collection Framelits. I sponged old olive around the edges of the vanilla cardstock and glued it on top of the DSP. I added the regal rose lace ribbon from the Artisan Embellishments kit across the die cut labels. The sentiment is the same as the previous card. 

I hope you enjoyed looking at these cards as much as I enjoyed making them. I just love how they turned out. And if you’re wondering how I made the small double loop bows, stay tuned, I will post the instructions as soon as I get a chance to document the whole process.

Dress Up

I didn't get to play or do anything crafty at all last week but I made it up this weekend! I knew I wanted to play with the Dress Up Framelits so that’s where I started. Once again, I’m using the First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper.  I love this paper and I can't stop using it.

I die cut two dress forms – one using First Edition DSP and the other one using vanilla cardstock. I pasted the die cuts together to make the dress form sturdier. I stamped the flowers and leaves from the You Are Loved stamp set using regal rose and old olive inks. I sponged soft suede ink all over the form and added the double bow accent.

The base card is crumb cake. The large panel, also in crumb cake, was dry embossed using Square Lattice Embossing Folder and sponged with soft suede ink all around. The garden green panel was distressed with a distressing tool. The sentiment from the Create A Cupcake stamp set was stamped in soft suede. The lacy ribbons and button are part of the Artisan Embellishment kit. The butterfly was punched with Bitty Butterfly Punch.

I’m quite happy with the results. And once I got it done, I was ready for the next one.

Feeling Sentimental

Today I'm sharing a card made with the Feeling Sentimental clear stamp set (Item #129630).  This set is one of the free items you can get during Stampin'Up's Sale A Bration (SAB) event which will end on March 22, 2013.  I didn't think I'd like this set but it was actually very versatile and easy to work with.

I started with a Pool Party card stock for the base card.  I matted a piece of First Edition Specialty DSP on a piece of vanilla card stock.  The Ferris wheel was stamped in Early Espresso ink and sponged with Pool Party and Soft Suede inks and then framed with an oval scallop die cut from Crumb Cake card stock. The sentiment is from the Perfectly Penned clear stamp set  (Item #122892) and was stamped with Pool Party ink.  The button is from the Sycamore Street Ribbon and Button Pack (Item #130812), another free item from SAB.

Artisan Embellishments

Today I'm sharing a couple of cards I made using the Artisan Embellishments Kit from Stampin' Up's Spring Catalog.  The color combinations for this kit are Crumb Cake, Primrose Petals, Pool Party and Very Vanilla.  I think the embellishments are perfect for vintage cards.  Get ready for a lot of sponging!

The first card was made with vanilla cardstock with all the edges sponged with Soft Suede ink.  Then I layered a piece of 4" x 5.25" First Edition Specialty paper with edges also sponged with Soft Suede ink.  The kit comes with two double-sided tags - white on one side and kraft on the other side.  I used the kraft side of one tag and sponged it with Crumb Cake.  I added the ribbon, the rose and the buttons.  The sentiment is from the Vintage Verses stamp set and was stamped with Primrose Petals ink on a punched vanilla cardstock.  I also sponged the sentiment label with Soft Suede and added the pearl.

The next card was also made with vanilla cardstock sponged with Soft Suede ink.  I sponged the white doily heart with Soft Suede to get the vintage look.  This time I sponged the tag with Primrose Petals on the kraft side.  I added the ribbons, roses, pearls and the love label served as the sentiment.

One last note, the roses in the kit were really light so I sponged them with Regal Rose ink which is a shade lighter than Primrose Petals.

I like how they turned out but the embellishments are so bulky I don't think they're suitable for mailing, definitely hand delivery only.

Christmas Cards

A quick post to share with you the Christmas cards I personally sent out this year.  When I went back to review all the cards I made since October to select a card design to send out this season, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I had so much to choose from.  I could not decide right away which one I would use.  I wanted something simple and easy because frankly, I'm running out of time.  I really like the red cardinals even though the card itself was more involved than I originally wanted.

I got them all done in one day and mailed with plenty of time to get to their destination before Christmas.  I wanted to do other colors but  in the end I stayed with just crumb cake and summer starfruit.

I have some extras so if you want one or two let me know.

Ornaments Keepsakes

I just had to include these cards featuring the Ornament Keepsakes in this series.  I won this bundle of stamp sets and coordinating dies from a raffle held at one of our stamping group meetings.

All the ornaments were heat embossed with white embossing powder on cherry cobbler card stocks.   I wanted to use the same elements and create three distinctly different cards.

The first card came together pretty quickly until I got to the sentiment.  I tried different placements and punches but ultimately decided to add another ornament with the "merry" adhered in the middle.

The next card layout came to me the first time I saw this particular stamp.   Somehow it reminded me of those sparkly bead "curtains" from the sixties.  I thought the embossed double lines added just the right touch of texture.  This is my favorite out of the three cards.

With the last card, I tried to create a non-holiday card using holiday elements.  I made a "flower" with the ornaments and used a vague sentiment.

Sponged Frame Technique

Still playing with the Trust God and Serene Silhouette stamp sets from Stampin'Up........

Last week, I found a video tutorial by Dawn Olchefsky at dostampingwithdawn.com about sponged frame technique that I thought was so simple and stunning I just had to try it.

I used the same color cardstock (crumb cake) and inks (crumb cake, early espresso) but the embossing folder and stamps were different.  I still have the Trust God and Serene Silhouette stamp sets on my work table so I decided to work with those.  I also used the Square Lattice EP (embossing folder) because I like it and I haven't used it in a while.

Just like Dawn's tutorial, my main image was off to the left side and the sentiment was on the bottom right corner.  I don't like using glitter because of the mess it leaves behind but Dawn used glitter on her card so I had to try it too.  I glittered the tiny birds and OMG! it made all the difference.  The card is so serene and elegant in person.  I hope I captured that in the photo.

Noticed how I made two?  'Coz one is not enough!  I'm so pleased with how they turned out I can't stop looking at them.'
